Day 27: Back at Los Angeles, CA

Friday, October 6, 2000

The night before we had decided we wanted to stay at Refugio SB a day longer and so we went to the ranger to book another night, before going to Santa Barbara. Were we disappointed to hear we had to pack our stuff and leave.. the whole campground was booked full all weekend because of Columbus Day! So we went back, took down our tents, packed our bags and went on to Santa Barbara. We looked around a mall for a bit, had a nice brunch and headed for the Los Angeles area, fearing our chances since we weren't prepared for a holiday weekend. Fortunately there were still some sites free at the (commercial) Malibu Beach RV Park, which was pretty nice as well, but not nearly as close to the beach as we had been the night before. The view made up for part of that though.
After we made camp we went shopping at 'Ralph's', where we bought some Halloween decorations - Halloween is getting better known every year in the Netherlands, but the things to go along with it are far better in the States. The rest of the afternoon Igor and Marco played ping-pong. We had dinner out that evening at 'Guido's', a very nice Italian place for which we were only slightly underdressed..
We drove about 118 miles today.

Today we went to Los Angeles, to see the La Brea Tar Pits and the Page museum (free!). We also drove to the 'Walk of Fame' but didn't go out of the car since we weren't really interested. We also drove down 'Melrose Avenue' of which we had enough quite quickly. So we went back to 3rd street, which we had seen before at night and liked very much. We spent the rest of the afternoon there. We had dinner somewhere along the highway at 'Johnnie's NY' - great pizza!
We all felt a little weird knowing this was our last night here and not knowing how to 'say goodbye' properly.
We drove about 64 miles today.
