Day 9: Grand Canyon NP, AZ

Tuesday, September 19, 2000

For the third day in a row we got up around 5:00. This time all of us had to get up because we wanted to watch the sun rise at Mather Point in Grand Canyon National Park. The sun came up at 6:12 and it was beautiful, but it was still very chilly!

Entrance to Grand Canyon NP Watching the sunrise Who dropped those coins there? Sun still rising
Getting lighter The rising sun (1) The rising sun (2) Quite a view

When the sun was visible we went back to our tentsite to take a shower, do some laundry and discuss what the plan was going to be for the day. Breakfast was priority no. 1 and we had it at one of the lodges in the park.. great! It felt good to be waited on too ;-)

Our campground next to the park Here we are Some creapy crawler 'Nice ditch, huh?'
It's so.. grand! It's the Colorado river What a lot of rock.. At an overlook

A shuttle bus runs along the West Rim and stops at various viewpoints. We decided to take the Shuttle and take the tour to see the canyon at its best. And so we did! Just take a look at (some of) the pictures we took.

Wendy & Marco Another glimpse of water It's... the Grand Canyon (again) Marco & Igor

Watchtower Indian art inside tower

With our own car we drove to Desert viewpoint to see the watchtower. After that it was time to get out of the park and arrange for our dinner. Which we had at Wendy's (isn't it cool to have a fastfood chain named after you?), before we went to the Imax theatre to see the movie "Grand Canyon, the hidden secrets".
We drove 93 miles today.
